Arvind Chopra

Arvind Chopra is the founding Director and Chief Rheumatologist of Centre for Rheumatic Diseases in Pune since 1992 and has been in clinical practise for over 40 years. He is a distinguished alumnus of the Armed Force Medical College, Pune, India.
He was appointed, for the first time, AYUSH Distinguished Scientist Chair for Public Health and Epidemiology by the Ministry of AYUSH- CCRAS, Government of India from 2023-2026.
In 2022 he was made the Master of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR).
In 2022, he received the highest award for distinguished services Dr MN Passey Award from the Indian Rheumatology Association.
In 2019, he was made the first Master of the Indian Rheumatology Association.
He was the international Co-ordinator for the WHO-ILAR Community Oriented Program for Control of Rheumatic Diseases (COPCORD) for ILAR (2005-2010) and APLAR (2016-2023).
In 2008, Dr Chopra was conferred with the honour of the ‘Bone and Joint Decade’ Ambassador for India in 2008 by the global steering committee.
From 2005 to 2012, Dr Chopra chaired of the task force for ‘Epidemiology of Musculoskeletal Disorders’ set up by Indian Council for Medical Research, Government of India.
Dr Chopra is a renowned physician scientist. He is globally acclaimed for his work in WHO COPCORD , Chikungunya arthritis and Ayurveda drugs for arthritis and COVID-19.
He has over 150 peer reviewed research publications. He has been a PhD guide for several students in the University of Pune and mentored training of over 12 young rheumatologists.
He is a sought-after speaker for national and global medical conferences since over 3 decades and has officially represented India at international meetings with WHO, US FDA and EMEA.
He has earlier won several prestigious academic awards and distinctions including the President Gold Medal in MBBS and Gold medal in MD examinations. Later, he received several national and international awards and honours from professional organizations.
