Aastha Khullar is currently enrolled as a PhD student in Department of Internal Medicine at PGIMER, Chandigarh, India under the supervision of Dr Varun Dhir, Professor, Dept. of Internal Medicine (Rheumatology Unit). She completed her masters (Honours) in Microbiology from Panjab University Chandigarh in 2018. Presently her research work focuses on understanding the GMCSF producing CD8 T cells in the synovial fluid of rheumatoid arthritis patients. Over the past decade role of GMCSF has shifted from hematopoietic to mediator of inflammation. Her work focuses on understanding this GMCSF producing CD8 T cells which have not been studied before and in characterising this subset for phenotypic, polyfunctionality, memory/naïve and cytotoxic ability since CD8 T cells are the predominant population in the synovial compartment which mediates the inflammation.
