• Graduated from Asahikawa Medical University in 1982, joined the Department of Orthopedic Surgery
• Obtained Ph.D. in Medicine (Pathology & Immunology) in 1987
• Studied rheumatology at the University of Tennessee, USA, for two years starting in 1989
• Director of the Orthopedic Surgery Department at the Dogo Onsen Hospital Rheumatism Center for two years starting in 1995
• Assistant in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Asahikawa Medical University in 1997
• Opened Katayama Orthopedic and Rheumatology Clinic in 2000, continues to the present..
