Dr Tan completed his clinical specialty training and received accreditation as a specialist in rheumatology in May 2012. Dr Tan started his specialty career at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital, in 2014, he was awarded a Ministry of Health Scholarship and spent time as a rheumatology immunology fellow at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in New South Wales Australia with a focus on musculoskeletal ultrasound and lab immunology. He returned and implemented a novel myositis autoantibody panel in the clinical immunology laboratory, now regarded as clinical standard of care. In November 2016, Dr Tan relocated to the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital providing consult services in rheumatology, allergy & immunology. In 2020 to 2021, Dr Tan served as a consulting immunologist for severe COVID requiring immunotherapeutics. In the last 3 years, Dr Tan has taken on clinical governance and management roles in the hospital board with a focus on manpower, medical affairs, and medicolegal matters.
