Sumaira Farman

After MBBS (Punjab, Pakistan), and MRCP (London), she cleared the U.K. Rheumatology Specialist
Examination (SCE). She is International Fellow of American College of Physicians (FACP) & Rheumatology
(FACR), and Fellow Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) London. She was also certified as a clinical
densitometrist (CCD) from ISCD, USA.
Primarily an adult rheumatologist, she interned in paediatric rheumatology, Kansas University Medical
Centre (KUMC), USA through an ACP International Fellowship and acquired the Graduate Certificate in
Paediatric Rheumatology (Grad Cert PRheum), after a one-year on-line course from the University of
Western Australia (UWA).
Based in Lahore, Pakistan, she is Professor and Head of Rheumatology Department National Hospital
Post Graduate Training & Medical Centre (NHPGT & MC), a training site for Pakistan’s specialist exit
examination in rheumatology viz., FCPS Rheumatology. She is Visiting Faculty Fatima Jinnah Medical
University (FJMU) and Central Park Teaching Hospital & Medical College (CPTH & MC) and Faculty
Rheumatology College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), and Rheumatology committee member
University of Health Sciences (UHS).
She pioneered a dedicated paediatric rheumatology clinical service in Lahore and is Chair of the
paediatric rheumatology program being developed at NHPGT & MC, and CPTH & MC, Lahore.
She is Supervisor and Examiner, Discipline of Rheumatology, CPSP. She was part of the team that
established the first Rheumatology program to be recognized in Pakistan for FCPS (Fellow College of
Physicians & Surgeons, Pakistan) training in Rheumatology by the CPSP.
She is Past President, Pakistan Society for Rheumatology (PSR), having been its Joint & General Secretary
in the past. Presently Executive Council Member of PSR and co-Chair PSR SIG and Registries committee,
and Chair PSR Paediatric Rheumatology SIG.
She was recognized for her contribution to rheumatology in Pakistan by PSR in 2021.
She has been Associate Editor International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases (IJRD).
She is a member of the Steering Committee Global Paediatric MSK Task Force and on Editorial Board of
PMM, a free on-line educational site for paediatric rheumatology.
She is Convener APLAR Paediatric Rheumatology Special Interest Group (2019- to Date).
She APLAR Treasurer APLAR (2021-2023).
Presently she is Vice President APLAR
She has been an invited speaker at international conferences and co-authored several research articles.
She is Co-Founder & Co-Chairperson, Arthritis Care Foundation (ACF), Lahore
(www.arthritiscare.org.pk) a trust with an aim to work toward education (ACF rheumatology
training scholarships), research and improved clinical care through free or subsidized clinics and
medications to low income patients with rheumatic diseases in Pakistan.
